Cumberland 1735 -1799
The Assizes were held only in the Summer and always at Carlisle.  
121 death sentences were passed leading to 22 confirmed and 3 probable executions
for civil crimes which took place at Carlisle Low Sands.
A Special Commission of Gaol Delivery was held at Carlisle following the Jacobite Rising 
in 1745 - the Grand Jury meeting for the first time on  August 1746 and the actual trials
beginning on Tuesday, 9th September. These led to 33 executions.

42 pleaded guilty (marked * below) and 49 were tried and found guilty.
33 were subsequently executed and 1 died in prison.
Charles Douglas pleaded a peerage in the title of Lord Mordington
William Greenhill and John Stuart were too sick to stand trial
36 were tried and acquitted
