Newgate executions 1837 - 1902 |
All of the executions listed here are for murder.
A total of 107 people were hanged in this period, comprising 99 men and 8
women.
The first 44 executions were carried out in public, in front of the Debtor's
Door. Michael Barrett became the last
man to die in public. The subsequent 63 executions took place in the execution
shed in one of the prison's yards in private.
Of these hangings, 9 were carried out in the 20th century.
